March

Drilled seven soil borings (SB1-7) between March 7 and 16 and collected soil/rock samples. Found several VOCs, including DCE, PCE, TCE, and vinyl chloride, and chromium, copper lead, and nickel above background levels. TCE concentrations in three samples also exceeded RRS2 standards, as well as chromium, copper, lead, and manganese concentrations in one sample. Results are summarized in Table B3-1.

Order 67

November - December

Performed second, more detailed soil gas survey between November 14 and December 5. PCE and DCE results similar to initial results from first phase. Found additional TCE source area with high cis-1,2-DCE concentrations.

Submitted Work Plan for the SVE Pilot Test System to EPA and TNRCC.

Parsons ES

Order 67

February

Between February 19 and 23, drilled 12 soil borings and constructed 6 vapor extraction wells (VEW) and 6 vapor monitoring points (VMP) within the borings for soil vapor extraction (SVE) pilot test. Collected 15 soil samples from 10 of the soil borings. Highest concentrations of VOCs found between 13 and 15 feet bgl within the main trench. TCE and DCE levels in several samples exceeded RRS2 criteria. Results are summarized in Table B3-3.

Blower manifolded to the vapor extraction wells for SVE pilot test on March 4 and 5.

Parsons ES

Order 67

March

Collected initial soil gas samples from extraction wells and monitoring points between March 5 and 7. Sampled for oxygen, carbon dioxide, and TVH using field instruments. Some samples were collected in canisters for VOCs testing by an off-site laboratory.

Parsons ES

Order 67

March

Performed an air permeability test by extracting air from VEW-6 and monitoring pressure responses and soil gas changes at MPE and MPF on March 6. Results of these tests are provided in Volume 4.

Parsons ES

Order 67

March

Between March 7 and 13, performed a second air permeability test by extracting air from VEW-1, located by monitoring pressure responses and soil gas changes in other test points. Monitored VOC emissions from blower exhaust. Collected air samples from emissions for determination of mass removal.

Parsons ES

Order 67

March

Performed multiple configuration testing on SVE system on March 13 to identify interconnections in the subsurface of the trench. Shut down blower and drained 15-20 gallons of water from separator tank.

Parsons ES

Order 67

April

Filed a standard exemption with TNRCC containing necessary calculations and site data for obtaining the emission exemption.

Parsons ES

Order 67
