Sampling and Analysis Plan - Addendum Specific to Field Sampling Plan for Delivery Order TO42

Section 1 - Introduction

This document is an amendment to the existing SAP for the installation of monitoring wells (Volume 1-4: Sampling and Analysis Plan and Quality Assurance Project Plan). The purpose of this addendum is to identify and address specifics for the TO42 field activities and verify that the activities are explained in either the original Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) or addenda.

This addendum to the SAP is prepared in accordance with applicable state regulations for installation, completion, and development of monitoring wells. Guidance for drilling procedures, well construction, and sampling techniques was adapted from the AFCEE Model Field Sampling Plan (MFSP). Input and recommendations from the U.S. EPARegion 6 and the TNRCC were also considered and incorporated into the planning documents.

1.1 - Field Activities

Drilling activities to be completed under TO42 include:

  1. Installation of nine monitoring wells forming Middle Trinity aquifer clusters at five locations, including one off-post location.

  2. Installation of four non-clustered monitoring wells observing the Lower Glen Rose (LGR) portion of the aquifer exclusively.

  3. Installation of four Westbay multi-port monitoring devices at two on-post and two off-post locations.

  4. Continuously core and sample selected boreholes.

  5. Ensure boreholes are plumb (e.g., perpendicular and vertical) to ground surface using a TOTCO drift indicator tool after every 50 feet of advancement.

  6. Perform geophysical logging and downhole camera surveys in selected boreholes.

  7. Obtain qualitative discrete interval groundwater samples at depths determined through review of geophysical and lithologic logs at selected boreholes.

  8. Upgrade CS-MW-1-LGR, CS-MW-2-LGR, and CS-MW-16-LGR (formerly CS-16) open borehole completions with casing and screen.

  9. Upgrade agricultural Wells CS-G and CS-H with new surface completions and pumps. Replace Well CS-H if the existing well cannot be rehabilitated.

  10. Develop completed monitor wells using surging, bailing, and pumping techniques.

  11. Perform quarterly groundwater sampling at all on-post wells and selected off-post wells until March 2003.

  12. Collect and dispose of both liquid and solid investigation derived waste (IDW).

  13. Operate and perform basic operation and maintenance (O&M) tasks at the TPDES-permitted granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system located at Outfall 002.
