SAP Addendum Specific to Field Sampling Plan for AOC-55 Remedial Actions, January 2003

Section 6 - Sample Analysis and Quality Control

The samples to be collected during the TO 0009 task order activities include composite and grab surface soil samples and trench sidewall soil samples. A majority of the sampling will be performed to assess site conditions for remedial purposes and will not require typical QA/QC protocols. However, a limited number of samples, such as the soil samples collected from the excavation during the removal action, may require appropriate QA/QC if the results will be submitted for documentation of closure attainment. Because of the difference in intended use of the sample data, different levels of quality control requirements will apply. A summary of the sampling to be completed and the quality control requirements are presented below.

Sampling conducted as part of the interim measures and environmental investigations at AOC-65 will comply with the requirements of the AFCEE QAPP, Version 3.0 and the Sampling and Analysis Plan, Volume 1, Environmental Encyclopedia, except where previously described in this document.

Analytical data collected during the task order activities will be analyzed by Agricultural and Priority Pollutants (APPL), Fresno, California. The project required detection limits will be below regulatory criteria, according to APPL laboratory-specific tolerances and limits. The laboratory data will be validated by a Parsons Chemist in accordance with the AFCEE QAPP, Version 3.0.

A majority of the data collected as part of the interim corrective measures and environmental investigations at AOC-65 is considered screening data. Therefore, no field duplicate, MS/MSD, or equipment blank samples will be collected. However, trip blanks will be collected for each day that VOC analysis samples are sent to the laboratory at a rate of one trip blank per cooler shipped.

One area where sample QA/QC requirements may be required is the excavation area during the removal actions. If field conditions indicate that all impacted soils have been removed during the excavation, post-excavation verification soil samples collected from the excavation will be tested in accordance with the AFCEE QAPP, Version 3.0, to document closure of soil media at the AOC-55 unit. If it is determined that the samples may be submitted to support closure of the unit, field duplicate, MS/MSD, and equipment blank samples w
