[SWMU B-9]

SWMU B-9 Work Plan

RL53 Project, March 1998

Previous Investigations (Updated): None.  The investigation planned under RL17 was inadvertently conducted at AOC 44.

Data Needs: Additional analytical data for subsurface soils.

Closure Activities: The following field activities will be performed to gather data for TNRCC closure submittal of SWMU B-9.

  1. Two additional soil borings will be drilled to complete characterization of the subsurface soils.

  1. Locate, receive clearance, and drill two additional borings at surface sample locations to be defined based on the results of the RL17 field efforts and investigation.

  2. Obtain three samples per boring near surface, middle and total depths in accordance with Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

  3. Analyze each sample for VOCs and metals (as outlined in the FSP) since background levels were slightly exceeded for arsenic, barium, chromium, and copper.

  1. Water is not expected to be encountered at the site.  However, if water is discovered in any of the soil borings, the borings will be sampled and completed as groundwater monitor wells as detailed in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview. Sample groundwater, where contamination is present, and analyze each sample for the SVOCs, VOCs, explosives, and metals (as outlined in the FSP).

  2. Handle the IDW in accordance with the FSP.

  3. If the results of the above work indicate that the site can be closed under RRS1 without any further remediation, a technical/closure report will be prepared in accordance with TNRCC closure requirements.
