SAP Addendum Specific to Field Sampling Plan for Subsurface Soil Boring Activities at AOC-65 and AOC-67 under AETC DO 5084

Section 3 - Calibration Requirements

Primary standards will be confirmed with a secondary standard by GC/MS in the fixed laboratory prior to the on-site analysis and will be re-certified once every 30 days during the period of performance. The acceptance criteria for the primary standards are 15% of the true value.

A five-point initial calibration curve (ICAL) will be performed prior to any sample analysis. An additional five-point calibration will be performed once every 30 days while the mobile laboratory is located at the same site. The acceptance criteria for the ICAL are R2 0.995 (R2 is a correlation coefficient). Any sample with a compound that exceeds the highest point of the ICAL will require a dilution. Dilutions of up to 20x will be performed by reducing the volume of soil gas injected. Dilutions greater than 20x will be performed in a cleaned glass dilution bottle.

An initial calibration verification (ICV) will be performed at the beginning of each analytical batch, prior to sample analysis, and a continuing calibration verification (CCV) will be performed once every ten injections and at the end of each analytical batch. The ICV and CCV will be analyzed at a concentration equal to the mid-point of the ICAL and the acceptance criteria for both are 75-125% recovery.

All QC criteria are applicable only to the primary detector (PID).

3.1 - Method Detection Limits and Reporting Limits

The laboratory conducts an MDL study once every twelve months for all target compounds on both detectors. The concentration of the lowest ICAL point is used as the RL for each target compound. MDLs and RLs will only be adjusted when dilutions are involved.

3.2 - Other Quality Control Requirements

Method Blank (MB): The cleanliness of the sample preparation process and the entire analytical system is verified by the analysis of a method blank. A method blank will be analyzed daily, prior to sample analysis. The concentration of all target analytes in the method blank must be less than the MDL for that analyte.

Laboratory Duplicate (LD): For every batch of twenty field samples, one sample will be analyzed in duplicate to determine the precision of the analysis. The QC criteria for the laboratory duplicate is relative percent difference (RPD) 30% for any compounds detected at or above five times the RL.

Any chlorinated target compound with a concentration (as calculated by the primary detector) above the RL will be verified by the secondary detector. Only confirmed compounds will be reported.

Any compound with a concentration between the MDL and RL will be qualified SF according to the AFCEE QAPP version 3.0.
