TO0019 Work Plan Addendum

Area of Concern 54

Site Description and History

AOC-54 is located in the southern portion of the Inner Cantonment and has an area of approximately 0.2 acre (Figure AOC54-1). The site was used for battery storage and there is noticeable stressed vegetation in the area that may be related to battery storage activities.

Based on prior usage at the site as a battery storage area, chemicals of potential concern only include metals (arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel and zinc). Explosives, VOCs, and SVOCs are not a concern at this site since no evidence of waste disposal, burning activities, or ammunition is present.

Summary of Previous Investigation Results

No previous investigations have been conducted at AOC-54.

Closure Plan and Sampling Recommendations

Stressed vegetation at AOC-54 may be due to previous battery storage activities. Since no investigations have been performed at the site, it is recommended that five surface soil samples be collected in the areas with stressed vegetation. The samples will be analyzed for metals and pH.

If the sample results indicate that metals levels do not exceed RRS1 and that the soil pH is within normal range, a closure report will be prepared and submitted in accordance with TCEQ closure requirements. If the site does not meet RRS1 requirements, an RFI Report will be prepared.
