SWMU B-6 Work Plan
RL17 Project, February 1996

Soils: Tarrant association (gently undulating)

Known: Area near the homesteads and Well G reported for disposal of miscellaneous solid waste

Previous Investigations: Site could not be located during the previous field investigation (ES, 1993b).

Data Needs: Location, map, geophysical survey, analytical data (SVOCs, VOCs and metals) for surface soil.

Closure Activities: If the site cannot be located through an additional records search, a field location activity, or geophysical survey, the site should be delisted. The following field activities will be performed to gather data for TNRCC closure submittal of SWMU B-6.

SWMU B-6 Field Effort 1

1. Review historical records as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

2. Field locate and map SWMU as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

3. Conduct a geophysical survey, as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview, of the mapped site if the site is identified, or survey the approximate location of the site if it could not be definitively located.

4. If the SWMU can be definitively located, sample and analyze surface soils from three locations as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview. Analyze each sample for VOCs, metals, and SVOCs (as outlined in the FSP). Compare analytical results to background levels for soils (Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview).

5. If the SWMU cannot be definitively located through a geophysical survey and additional records review, then the site will be delisted.

SWMU B-6 Field Effort 2

1. If a geophysical survey indicates subsurface anomalies, complete the following activities:

a) Locate, receive approval, and drill three soil borings as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview to provide for subsurface soil sampling.

b) Obtain three samples per boring located near the surface (0-2 foot depth), middle, and total depths as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

c) Analyze each sample for SVOCs, VOCs, and metals (as outlined in the FSP). SVOCs are included due to the potential for landfilling of miscellaneous wastes.

2. If any surface samples taken during the first field effort have constituent concentrations exceeding background levels, three soil borings will be drilled to identify the vertical extent of contamination.

a) Locate, receive approval, and drill three borings at surface sample locations exceeding background concentrations as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

b) Obtain two samples per boring at middle and total depths (surface soils were previously sampled) in accordance with Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

c) Collect and analyze subsurface samples for the metals, VOCs, and SVOCs identified in surface sample analyses (as outlined in the FSP).

3. Water is not expected to be encountered at the site. However, if water is discovered in any of the soil borings, the three borings will be sampled and potentially completed as groundwater monitor wells as detailed in Section 2.4.1. Sample groundwater, where present, and analyze each sample for the metals, VOCs, and SVOCs identified from the analysis of surface samples (as outlined in the FSP).

4. Handle the IDW in accordance with Section 1.7 of the FSP.
