Began slit trenching the side walls of the quarry. Found burned debris mixed in with metal and small caliber projectiles. Encountered seven 75 mm projectiles and frag bomb sleeves, work stopped until EOD personnel can be on site. Soils excavated with EOD personnel on site to inspect any items of concern found. Items found were banding material, ammo cans, one 55 gal. drum filled with 50 cal. casings, top component to grenades, railroad ties, and 20 mm casings. Nothing was fused or contained a propellant. No UXO items of concern found. Waste characterization and closure samples collected. |
