[SWMU B-23]

SWMU B-23

RL17 Project, February 1996

Soils:  Tarrant Association, gently undulating

Known: A trench has been observed in a 1966 aerial photo for solid waste management unit B-23 (ES, 1993b). A trench filled in with soil and two half-buried green canisters was identified at SWMU B-23 during field activities.

Previous Investigations: Shown in Figure 3.8, the first of two anomalies in solid waste management unit B-23 may be a result of either nearby metal banding exposed on the surface or buried waste material in the area (Parsons ES, 1995c). A second anomaly may be caused by buried green canisters similar to those found in the area. A soil gas survey has not been conducted at the SWMU.

Data Needs: Soil gas survey.

Closure Activities: The following activities constitute an initial investigation of solid waste management unit B-23.

SWMU B-23 Field Effort 2

  1. Review historical records as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview.

  2. Using the grid established for the geophysical survey conducted under previous field efforts, install a soil gas probe at each gridpoint. If the grids are no longer in place, estimate the grid using Figure B23-1. Take a sample at each location as described in Section 2.4.1 of the Work Plan Overview and analyze for TCE, PCE, cis- and trans-1,2-DCE and the BTEX compounds (as outlined in the FSP).
