Groundwater monitoring at the UST sites was continued through 1995 when the state agreed that CSSA sites could discontinue monitoring due to the lack of contamination indications.

Investigated F-14 hazardous waste storage site; report indicated possible nickel and total petroleum hydrocarbons above state closure standards.

Conducted investigation of groundwater contamination found in CSSA well 16 in August 1991 (well shut off; has not been used since). Well surveys, sampling and downhole camera survey; preparation of project plans (May 1993).
Work delayed for 1 year while EPA discussed B-20 NOV and other concerns with CSSA. Began groundwater monitoring in 1994, downhole geophysical testing, interval and packer test sampling.
Groundwater flow direction generally south-southeast. Water levels in unconfined aquifer range from 100 to 320 feet below ground.
Extensive geophysical and soil gas testing within 1/2 mile of well 16, 1995. Drilling and sampling at 7 potential source areas.
Presented results to EPA and TNRCC; agreement in spring 1996 to install 2 new monitor wells in the Glen Rose aquifer. Results of monitoring showed an easterly component to groundwater flow not previously known.

Removed and investigated all USTs at CSSA. Tanks disposed of. All sites excavated until insitu levels were found at or below state acceptable levels.
Soil that contained petroleum hydrocarbon above state regulations was treated at an offsite bioremediation facility. All soils bioremediated down to acceptable levels and certified.
Request for closure of all sites sent to TNRCC in 1995.

Records review of all known sites of potential environmental concern. Addressed archaeological, air, solid waste management units (SWMUs), surface water, groundwater, USTs, and other.
Report used as baseline for SWMU closure investigations and to prioritize future projects.

Responded to EPA NOV of June 1993 regarding lack of B-20 Closure Plan, and addressed other SWMUs considered to be high priority sites.
Investigation & UXO remediation at B-20 (work plan reviewed and approved by EPA and TNRCC). Over 800 UXO items identified during field surveys.
Prepared F-14 closure report; approved by the state in April 1995.
Prepared CSSA air permit application.
Prepared NPDES permit application.
Reclassified wastes under 30 TAC 335 Subchapter R requirements.
Prepared background metals levels study for use at B-20 and other SWMUs.

Investigation of 28 SWMUs, 2 treatability studies at B-3 and O-1; preparation of integrated waste mgt/spill plan; revision of background metals levels study
Integrated waste management plan completed November 1996
Investigation included mapping, surface sampling, EM and soil gas surveys, drilling and subsurface sampling.
Work to date:
* Planned field work completed. Draft maps and text prepared.
* Revised background metals study into state for review.
* Treatability SVE study at B-3 completed to date with draft report.
* Treatability study at O-1 completed through benchscale test of electrokinetics.
Major work actions to be conducted:
* Validate metals data upon regulatory approval of revised background.
* Complete draft and final SWMU investigation and/or closure reports.

Closure reports (where possible, otherwise investigation reports) for 5 SWMUs.

SOW requires 5 quarters of groundwater monitoring; upgrade of three CSSA water wells; and installation of three new monitoring wells.
Work to date is one quarter of monitoring; upgrade of 2 water wells.
Work under current SOW will continue through September 1998.
